How does early warning work?
📡 Detect first
A sensor network detects the P wave near the epicenter, characterizes the quake within seconds and sends a warning before the S wave reaches places farther away.
⏱️ Seconds, not minutes
Warnings give from a few to tens of seconds. Near the epicenter there's a "blind zone" where shaking arrives before any alert can.
🌎 Real systems
Examples include SASMEX in Mexico, ShakeAlert in the U.S. and Japan's system. Android phones also have earthquake alerts based on their sensors. Turn them on in your phone.
🤝 Tremo's role
Tremo informs you as soon as an official network publishes the quake, estimates whether you'd feel it and helps you get ready. It doesn't replace official alerts: it complements them.
